It's Harvest and The Vineyard Isn’t Panicking Hey Reader, This time of year, harvest has its own infrastructure at our house. There’s a laundry hamper in the garage for crush-pad clothes stiff with sweat, grape juice, and pomace. My winemaker husband keeps extra clothes in his car — including multiple pairs of socks — because after enough harvests, you learn what the season can ask of you. It all looks very active once the grape trucks start arriving. But here’s the thing: The harvest didn’t begin when the trucks pulled through the winery gate. Months of preparation came first. That’s true in business, too. We notice the visible stuff — the booked calendar, the launch that worked, the growing audience, the confident sales conversation. What we don’t always notice is everything that came before it. The relationship you kept nurturing. What looks sudden is often just the visible part of a much longer process. And this is where stewardship enters the picture. Consistency is the behavior. Stewardship is the leadership behind it. Harvest is the evidence that it mattered. Stewardship asks more than, “Am I showing up?” It asks, “What am I showing up for? What deserves my continued attention? What needs more patience? What might eventually need pruning?” That’s the leadership shift we’re exploring in YOU, Inc. this month. And speaking of patience, picture this … Cabernet Sauvignon is not lying awake at night panicking because Chardonnay got picked first. It is definitely not doom-scrolling at 11:47 p.m. thinking, Well, apparently Chardonnay has her entire life together. Entrepreneurs, on the other hand? We do this constantly. Someone launches first. Grows faster. Gets the opportunity. Reaches the milestone. And suddenly we assume our own crop is failing. But “not ready yet” and “not working” are not the same thing. Different things mature on different timelines. That’s true of grapes, offers, relationships, habits, confidence — and entire businesses. If this is hitting a nerve, I wrote more about the harvest lessons we’re living through right now — and how preparation, patience, and stewardship work together in business — in this week’s article, Harvest Doesn’t Reward Hurry — It Rewards Preparation. Your Action Step this WeekName one thing you’ve consistently nurtured this year. Finish this sentence: I’ve been tending ____________________. Then ask: What evidence tells me it’s growing—even if the full harvest isn’t here yet? And finally: What does it need from me now: more attention, more patience, or more trust? That’s enough for this week. No overhaul required. Just notice what’s already growing. 💛 Insider & VIP CornerInsiders and VIPs: Later this month, you’ll use the Tenacious WFH CEO Harvest Report to evaluate what produced results, where you invested wisely, what needs pruning, and what deserves another season. The Quiet Habit That Changes Everything Hey Reader, There’s something comforting about tending a rose garden. This time of year, my roses are in full bloom. Some mornings I wander outside with my coffee and find gorgeous blossoms that seem to have opened overnight. Other mornings, I notice petals scattered on the ground after yesterday’s heat. A bloom that's finished its season. A stem that needs deadheading. Leaves asking for a little more attention. I never look at a struggling rose bush...
When It’s Time to Stop Standing at the Crossroads Hey Reader, One of the things I love most about my morning walks with Max is that they allow me to turn my brain off for awhile. Interestingly enough, that's when I have some of my most powerful thoughts and insights! Recently, I've been thinking about how often life — and business — asks us to choose. Every day, Max and I reach the same corner in our neighborhood. From there, we can turn left, turn right, or continue straight toward the park....
A Better Question Can Change Your Direction The path forward may become clearer when you stop rushing toward the first answer. Hey Reader, Every morning, Max and I begin our walk the same way. We leave the house, follow the sidewalk in front of our yard, and head toward the corner at the end of the block. Then we pause. We can continue straight toward the park, turn left for a longer walk, or turn right for the quickest loop around the block. Sometimes we choose based on time or energy....
