The Quiet Habit That Changes Everything Hey Reader, There’s something comforting about tending a rose garden. This time of year, my roses are in full bloom. Some mornings I wander outside with my coffee and find gorgeous blossoms that seem to have opened overnight. Other mornings, I notice petals scattered on the ground after yesterday’s heat. A bloom that's finished its season. A stem that needs deadheading. Leaves asking for a little more attention. I never look at a struggling rose bush and think, "Well, I guess that one failed." I simply give it what it needs that day. Then I come back tomorrow. The more I thought about it, the more I realized my business has grown the same way. Not because every week has been extraordinary. Not because every idea worked. Not because every goal was achieved on schedule. But because I kept showing up. Week after week. Season after season. That's the heart of this week's article, and if you've ever wondered whether your ordinary weeks "count," I think you'll find it encouraging. I share why I believe leadership and success are built through consistency — not perfection — and why your next Weekly CEO Meeting may matter even more than your last one. One sentence kept coming back to me as I was writing: Success is built in the space between your CEO Meetings. The meeting itself is important. But what really changes your business is what happens afterward. It's the conversation you finally have. The boundary you keep. The priority you follow through on. The decision you act on. Those ordinary choices rarely feel dramatic in the moment, yet they're the ones that quietly shape the kind of leader you're becoming. Your Action Step this WeekBefore your next Weekly CEO Meeting, take a moment to reflect on the week behind you. Instead of asking: "Did I accomplish enough?" Try asking: "How did I show up as the CEO of YOU, Inc. this week?" Then, as you plan the week ahead, ask one more question: "How can I show up well for this season of my business?" You don't need to become a different leader by next week. You simply need to keep becoming her. As July comes to a close, I hope the YOU, Inc. series has encouraged you to think differently about leadership — not as something reserved for milestone moments, but as a practice you build one ordinary Tuesday at a time. Win WFH Tip of the WeekWFH Tip: To WIN working from home, do not start your day by checking email. Checking email first thing puts you straight into reactive mode, surrendering your morning focus to other people's priorities. By dedicating your peak energy to your most important goal before opening your inbox, you take control of your day instead of letting it control you. When It’s Time to Stop Standing at the Crossroads Hey Reader, One of the things I love most about my morning walks with Max is that they allow me to turn my brain off for awhile. Interestingly enough, that's when I have some of my most powerful thoughts and insights! Recently, I've been thinking about how often life — and business — asks us to choose. Every day, Max and I reach the same corner in our neighborhood. From there, we can turn left, turn right, or continue straight toward the park....
A Better Question Can Change Your Direction The path forward may become clearer when you stop rushing toward the first answer. Hey Reader, Every morning, Max and I begin our walk the same way. We leave the house, follow the sidewalk in front of our yard, and head toward the corner at the end of the block. Then we pause. We can continue straight toward the park, turn left for a longer walk, or turn right for the quickest loop around the block. Sometimes we choose based on time or energy....
Busy Employees React. CEOs Think. Why protecting your attention matters more than protecting your time. Hey Reader, Most of us don't begin the day planning to spend hours reacting to interruptions. But somehow it happens. An email arrives. A client has a question. A notification pops up. One quick task leads to another, and before long, we've been busy all morning — but the work we actually wanted to accomplish is still waiting. That realization hit me recently while I was out in the garden. I...
