This Might Be Why Your Growth Feels So Hard

How to Recognize When Your Business Is Ready to Grow … and When It’s Not

Hey Reader,

Last weekend, I did what I always do this time of year …

I got a little over-enthusiastic in the garden. 🌱✨

Everything was sprouting — tiny green shoots, new life everywhere — and it felt like progress. Like possibility.

So naturally, I started thinning things out.

Deciding what should stay, what needed more space … and what I could move somewhere “better.”

Every year, I have the same thought:

“I’ll just move this one …”

Sometimes it works.

But sometimes, the transplanted seedling struggles.

The leaves droop. Growth slows. And occasionally … it doesn’t make it at all.

And every time that happens, I’m reminded of this truth:

👉 It’s not that the plant was weak.
👉 It just wasn’t ready.

And that’s exactly what can happen in our businesses, too.

When things start working — even just a little — we feel the urge to build on it right away.

To grow it faster. Expand it. Do more.

Because it feels responsible.

Strategic.

Smart.

But not all growth needs to be accelerated.

Some of it just needs to be allowed.

If this is hitting close to home, I went deeper into this topic in this week’s article — including how to tell the difference between natural growth and forced growth, and what to do instead.

👉 You can read the full article here: The Difference Between Growth That’s Working and Growth That’s Forced

But before you click, here’s the part I want you to take with you today:

Growth that’s working doesn’t usually feel urgent.
It feels steady.
It builds quietly.
And it doesn’t need constant pushing to keep going.

Forced growth, on the other hand?

It feels rushed.

It asks more from you than your systems (or your energy) can support.

And it often comes from that subtle pressure of:
“I should be doing more with this.”

Your Action Step this Week

Take a few quiet minutes and ask yourself:

Where in my business is growth already happening naturally?

Then choose one area and make this decision:

👉 “I’m not going to interfere with this right now.”

No expanding.
No fixing.
No accelerating.

Just support.
Consistency.
Trust.

Before You Change Anything, Take a Closer Look at What’s Already Working Hey Reader, A few weeks ago, I made limoncello from scratch. Nothing fancy — just lemons from our backyard, a carefully chosen vodka (my winemaker husband took that part very seriously 😄), sugar, water … and time. It turned out really good. So I gave a bottle to my mom, and a few days later she texted: “Did you REALLY make this … because it’s SO good!” After we cleared up that she wasn’t accusing me of secretly buying...

You Don’t Need a Bigger Plate — Just Better Decisions Reader, last weekend, I stood in my backyard staring at my raised garden beds, seriously considering adding another one. More space. More plants. More possibility. It sounded like a great idea. But instead, I stayed with what I already had — and made myself do the harder thing: I chose what actually deserved to be planted. And I’ll be honest … that felt a lot more uncomfortable than building another bed. Because choosing means not choosing...

When Growth Means Making Space How work-from-home entrepreneurs can thin their commitments so the right work has room to thrive. Hi Reader, Last weekend I stepped into the backyard with a packet of seeds and a trowel, ready to start planting this year's garden. If you’ve ever gardened, you know the moment. There’s something hopeful about those tiny seeds — rows of possibility waiting to grow. But in my garden, every year something else happens, too ... Volunteer tomato plants show up. Lots of...
