You Don’t Need a Fresh Start — Just a Resume Point

January Productivity Without the Spiral

Hi Reader,

Have you ever sat down at your desk — coffee in hand, laptop open — and felt your brain just … stall?

Not in a dramatic way.
More like it’s quietly buffering.

You’re not unmotivated.
You’re not behind.
You’re just not sure where to resume.

This is one of the most common (and least talked about) January productivity challenges for work-from-home women: not knowing where to start again after a pause.

And when that uncertainty shows up, overthinking usually follows.

What doesn’t help is trying to re-plan everything before you begin. Or telling yourself you should be doing something “more strategic” right now.

What does help is giving yourself a clear resume point.

A resume point isn’t a goal or a priority list.
It’s simply the place where momentum last existed.

The project you were already working on.
The client workflow you know by heart.
The familiar task that reminds you who you are while you’re working.

Starting there does three important things:

  • It lowers resistance
  • It rebuilds confidence
  • And it restores motion without pressure

That’s why familiar work is so powerful in January. It’s not unambitious — it’s stabilizing.

If you want to go deeper into this idea, I unpack it fully in this week’s blog article, including a simple 3-step way to pick up where you left off without spiraling or re-planning your business:
👉 How to Pick Up Where You Left Off (Without Overthinking It)

But even if you don’t click through, here’s the most important thing I want you to take away today:

You don’t need clarity before you begin.
You need continuity.

And continuity starts small.

Your Action Step this Week

Before your next workday begins, take 10 quiet minutes and do this:

  1. Write one sentence describing what you were actively working on before things paused.
  2. Identify one small, familiar task that reconnects you to that work.
  3. Decide how much time you’ll spend — then stop when that time is up.

No re-planning.
No catching up.
Just continuation.

That alone is enough to restore momentum.

If you want a little extra support with this, the January Mini Power Tool — The Tenacious WFH Business Anchor Sheet — is available to Insiders and VIPs. It’s designed to help you:

  • Orient to where your business actually is right now
  • Choose one steady anchor
  • Define what “productive enough” looks like this month

It makes this week’s action step easier — and more sustainable.

You can upgrade anytime if it feels supportive. No urgency, no pressure.

You’re already doing more right than you think.

Before You Change Anything, Take a Closer Look at What’s Already Working Hey Reader, A few weeks ago, I made limoncello from scratch. Nothing fancy — just lemons from our backyard, a carefully chosen vodka (my winemaker husband took that part very seriously 😄), sugar, water … and time. It turned out really good. So I gave a bottle to my mom, and a few days later she texted: “Did you REALLY make this … because it’s SO good!” After we cleared up that she wasn’t accusing me of secretly buying...

You Don’t Need a Bigger Plate — Just Better Decisions Reader, last weekend, I stood in my backyard staring at my raised garden beds, seriously considering adding another one. More space. More plants. More possibility. It sounded like a great idea. But instead, I stayed with what I already had — and made myself do the harder thing: I chose what actually deserved to be planted. And I’ll be honest … that felt a lot more uncomfortable than building another bed. Because choosing means not choosing...

When Growth Means Making Space How work-from-home entrepreneurs can thin their commitments so the right work has room to thrive. Hi Reader, Last weekend I stepped into the backyard with a packet of seeds and a trowel, ready to start planting this year's garden. If you’ve ever gardened, you know the moment. There’s something hopeful about those tiny seeds — rows of possibility waiting to grow. But in my garden, every year something else happens, too ... Volunteer tomato plants show up. Lots of...
