When “Business-You” Feels a Little Quiet

Reconnecting With the Part of You That Runs the Business

Hi Reader,

If you’ve been back at your desk lately — technically working, technically productive — but something still feels a little off, let me gently reassure you:

You’re not broken.
You’re not behind.
And you didn’t “lose your edge.”

What you may be experiencing is something far more human — and far more common for women like us.

We’re excellent at wearing many hats.

On any given day, we might move between caregiver, partner, problem-solver, listener, organizer, supporter… and business owner. Sometimes all before noon.

When one role has needed more of you for a while, another doesn’t always step back into the spotlight automatically. Especially business-you.

That doesn’t mean she’s gone.
It just means she hasn’t been intentionally invited back forward yet.

Here’s the part I want you to hear clearly:

Reconnecting with your business after a break isn’t about motivation or discipline. It’s about identity.

You can absolutely jump back into tasks — answering emails, serving clients, checking things off — without fully feeling like yourself again while working. When that happens, work can start to feel oddly performative. Like you’re doing the business… instead of inhabiting it.

That’s a sign your identity needs orientation before expansion.

One of the fastest ways to reconnect isn’t through planning, reinventing, or pushing harder. It’s through familiar contact.

Familiar work. Familiar rhythms. Familiar ways of showing up that remind your nervous system, “Oh right. This is who I am when I work.”

Midway through writing this week’s blog article, I realized how many women quietly assume something is wrong when business-you feels muted — when really, she’s just been waiting for recognition, not reinvention.

👉 If you’d like to go deeper, I shared more about this (with grounding metaphors and gentle prompts) in this week’s post: Reconnecting With Your Business Identity After a Break

But even if you don’t click through, here’s something you can do right now.

Your Action Step this Week

Set aside 10 quiet minutes — no planning, no fixing.

• Write one sentence that describes who you are in your business right now (not who you’re becoming).
• Name one familiar anchor you can return to when things feel scattered.
• Decide what “productive enough” looks like for this version of you.

That’s it.

No reinvention required. No starting over necessary.

When Growth Feels Possible — But You Don’t Want to Burn Out Hey Reader, A funny thing happens around this time of year ... After the slow start of January and the rhythm-finding of February, March often brings a subtle shift. A little more energy. A little more clarity. You might find yourself thinking: “I think I’m ready for more.” More visibility.More opportunities.Maybe even more income. And that can be exciting. But if you’re anything like many experienced work-from-home entrepreneurs,...

Sustainable Work From Home Productivity in Real Life Reader, there’s something almost automatic that happens when a routine starts to feel harder. We assume it’s us. We think things like: “I was doing so well.” “What’s wrong with me?” “I need a better system.” But most of the time? Nothing is wrong. Your energy shifted. Your season changed. Life interrupted. Your capacity adjusted. And instead of recalibrating, we scrap the whole thing — very “new planner, new app, new Monday” energy. But...

Small Repetition Is Stronger Than You Think Reader, there’s something I’ve noticed about confidence — especially for women who work from home. We think it comes from momentum ... From having a “good week.”From finishing everything on the list. From feeling motivated and clear and energized. But that kind of confidence is fragile. It disappears the minute life interrupts. And life will interrupt. Real confidence isn’t built in big moments. It’s built in small repetition. It’s built the day you...
