Reconnecting With the Part of You That Runs the Business Hi Reader, If you’ve been back at your desk lately — technically working, technically productive — but something still feels a little off, let me gently reassure you: You’re not broken. What you may be experiencing is something far more human — and far more common for women like us. We’re excellent at wearing many hats. On any given day, we might move between caregiver, partner, problem-solver, listener, organizer, supporter… and business owner. Sometimes all before noon. When one role has needed more of you for a while, another doesn’t always step back into the spotlight automatically. Especially business-you. That doesn’t mean she’s gone. Here’s the part I want you to hear clearly: Reconnecting with your business after a break isn’t about motivation or discipline. It’s about identity. You can absolutely jump back into tasks — answering emails, serving clients, checking things off — without fully feeling like yourself again while working. When that happens, work can start to feel oddly performative. Like you’re doing the business… instead of inhabiting it. That’s a sign your identity needs orientation before expansion. One of the fastest ways to reconnect isn’t through planning, reinventing, or pushing harder. It’s through familiar contact. Familiar work. Familiar rhythms. Familiar ways of showing up that remind your nervous system, “Oh right. This is who I am when I work.” Midway through writing this week’s blog article, I realized how many women quietly assume something is wrong when business-you feels muted — when really, she’s just been waiting for recognition, not reinvention. 👉 If you’d like to go deeper, I shared more about this (with grounding metaphors and gentle prompts) in this week’s post: Reconnecting With Your Business Identity After a Break But even if you don’t click through, here’s something you can do right now. Your Action Step this WeekSet aside 10 quiet minutes — no planning, no fixing. • Write one sentence that describes who you are in your business right now (not who you’re becoming). That’s it. No reinvention required. No starting over necessary. ✨Want to go deeper? 💎 Upgrade to Insider/VIP access for instant access to the full Power Tool library. Before You Change Anything, Take a Closer Look at What’s Already Working Hey Reader, A few weeks ago, I made limoncello from scratch. Nothing fancy — just lemons from our backyard, a carefully chosen vodka (my winemaker husband took that part very seriously 😄), sugar, water … and time. It turned out really good. So I gave a bottle to my mom, and a few days later she texted: “Did you REALLY make this … because it’s SO good!” After we cleared up that she wasn’t accusing me of secretly buying...
You Don’t Need a Bigger Plate — Just Better Decisions Reader, last weekend, I stood in my backyard staring at my raised garden beds, seriously considering adding another one. More space. More plants. More possibility. It sounded like a great idea. But instead, I stayed with what I already had — and made myself do the harder thing: I chose what actually deserved to be planted. And I’ll be honest … that felt a lot more uncomfortable than building another bed. Because choosing means not choosing...
When Growth Means Making Space How work-from-home entrepreneurs can thin their commitments so the right work has room to thrive. Hi Reader, Last weekend I stepped into the backyard with a packet of seeds and a trowel, ready to start planting this year's garden. If you’ve ever gardened, you know the moment. There’s something hopeful about those tiny seeds — rows of possibility waiting to grow. But in my garden, every year something else happens, too ... Volunteer tomato plants show up. Lots of...
