Connected Doesn't Mean Constantly Available The lesson I brought home from a week when my laptop never left my tote bag. Hey Reader, When we left for our week in Cayucos, I packed my laptop. Not because I planned to work. But because ... well ... just in case. Just in case inspiration struck. Just in case something urgent came up. Just in case there was an emergency that couldn't wait until I got home. That laptop rode all the way to the beach in my tote bag. And then it stayed there. For the entire week. Instead, I walked on the beach with my dog Max, read outside while he lounged beside me on the outdoor couch, played Scrabble with my family (yes, I won ... and yes, they complained about playing a word game with a writer π), wrote in my journal, and enjoyed something that felt surprisingly rare: Days with almost nothing scheduled. When I came home and finally opened my laptop, I discovered something important. The business was still there. Nothing had fallen apart. Nothing had exploded. Life β and business β had simply continued. That experience reminded me of something I think many entrepreneurs need to hear: Being connected to your business is not the same thing as being constantly available to it. We live in a world where our businesses can reach us almost anywhere. Email follows us. Notifications travel in our pockets. Work is never more than a few taps away. But just because we can stay connected all the time doesn't mean we always should. In this week's article, I share what my untouched laptop taught me about boundaries, trust, and building a business that supports your life instead of competing with it. π Read the full article here: The Business Was Still There When I Got Backβ Here's the thought I'd love for you to carry into the week ahead: Connection is about caring. Availability is about access. Those are not the same thing. You can care deeply about your business without making yourself available every moment of every day. In fact, creating a little space may be one of the healthiest things you can do β for both you and your business. Your Action Step this WeekAsk yourself this: "What's one small way I could be less available this week without being less committed?" Maybe it's turning off notifications for an hour. Maybe it's taking an afternoon off. Maybe it's leaving your laptop closed after dinner. Or maybe it's taking a walk without checking your phone. Choose one small experiment. Then notice what happens. Notice what doesn't happen. You may discover that your business is stronger β and you're more resilient β than you realized. π Insider & VIP CornerThis month's Mini Power Tool is the Tenacious WFH Summer Flex Plan, designed to help you build a business that fits your life β not competes with it. The Invisible Report Card Hey Reader, Last week, I found myself looking at my to-do list at the end of the day and mentally calculating how I'd done ... Did I finish everything? Did I make enough progress? Did I accomplish what I planned to accomplish? Before I even realized it, I had started assigning the day a grade. Maybe not literally. But definitely in spirit. And that's when I caught myself. Why am I still grading my days? Because the funny thing is, I haven't been in school for a very...
Different Days Need Different Plans Hey Reader, As I write this, our upcoming week in Cayucos is getting closer. And while I'm looking forward to the beach, the ocean air, and a genuine break from work, I've also noticed something interesting. The week before a vacation doesn't feel like a normal week. Projects need to be wrapped up earlier. Content needs to be scheduled in advance. Loose ends need attention. Somewhere between checking my packing list and making sure everything is ready, I...
Nothing's Wrong β Your Season Just Changed Why the routines that worked before may not be the routines you need right now. Hey Reader, A few weeks from now, my husband and I will be heading to Cayucos for a week by the beach. The goal isn't to work from a different location. The goal is to take a genuine break. But what's interesting is what happens before a week away. Projects need to be wrapped up earlier. Content needs to be scheduled. Decisions need to be made ahead of time. Tasks that...
