Stop Setting Resolutions. Try This Instead.

Set Rhythms, Not Resolutions

Hi Reader,

If you’re reading this in that quiet, slightly strange space between Christmas and New Year’s, I want you to know a few things right away:

You’re not behind.

You don’t need a color-coded Q1 master plan.

And January doesn’t require a personality transplant.

Everywhere you look right now, the message is loud and urgent: New year. New you. Fix everything.

If your nervous system just clenched a little, you’re not alone.

Instead of resolutions (which tend to crack under real life by February), I want to offer you a gentler, more sustainable alternative:

Rhythms.

Why Rhythms Work (Especially for WFH Entrepreneurs)

Resolutions assume you operate like a machine — same energy, same focus, same capacity every week.

But work-from-home life doesn’t work that way.

Some weeks you’re sharp and steady. Other weeks, the dog gets sick, family needs more from you, or your energy is simply lower — and answering emails feels like a heroic act.

Rhythms honor our reality.

They’re repeatable patterns you return to — not rigid rules you obey.
They help answer questions like:

  • When do I work on this?
  • How much is enough for today?
  • What actually matters in this season?

Think less bootcamp, more sourdough starter. Slow. Alive. Adaptable.

I wrote about how to set rhythms instead of resolutions for a gentle, sustainable Q1 in this week's blog article if you want to go deeper. But for now ...

A Gentle Q1 Rhythm You Can Start This Week

You don’t need a full plan to begin. You just need one supportive framework.

As you think about Q1, try this trio:

1. One Weekly Anchor
Choose one non-negotiable that quietly supports your week — a short planning check-in, a CEO hour, or a consistent admin block. Think fence post, not prison bar.

2. One Energetic Priority
Not five goals. One theme.
Examples: stability, simplicity, consistency, visibility, or reconnection.
Let this guide your decisions.

3. One Restorative Habit
Not aspirational. Doable.
A walk between work blocks. A gentler shutdown ritual. A tech-free morning once a week.

Small rhythms create surprising momentum — without pressure.

Your Action Step this Week

Before January begins, take 10 quiet minutes and write down:

  • One thing you’re genuinely proud of from this year
  • One thing you’re ready to release or do less of in Q1
  • One energetic priority for the season
  • One small action that would help you start January feeling supported

That’s it. No resolutions required.

The Joy That Carries You Doesn’t Come Wrapped in Ribbons and Bows Reader, if you’re feeling tired this holiday season, there’s a good chance it’s not because you didn’t do enough throughout the year behind us — it’s because you did a lot. And the things that truly carried you through this year probably aren’t sitting under the tree. They’re quieter than that. Less visible. The kind of joy that doesn’t come wrapped or announced, but shows up steadily — in small moments, steady supports, and...

Why Building Rest Into Your Workday Makes You More Productive — Not Less Hey Reader, happy mid-December! You hanging in there? If you’ve ever ended a workday feeling wrung out — like you worked all day but didn’t actually feel productive — you’re not alone. This time of year especially, many work-from-home entrepreneurs try to force summer-level output from winter-level energy. Shorter days. Heavier brains. Bodies that want slower rhythms. And yet … the to-do list stays loud. Here’s the...

A gentler, doable way to feel more in control before January arrives Reader, we’ve officially entered that funny stretch of December where time feels both slow and fast … like we’re wading through molasses, but the calendar is sprinting toward the new year. And if you’re anything like me (and every Gen X woman entrepreneur I know), this is when the whispers start: “You should fix everything now.” “You need a new system.” “You’re already behind on next year.” But here’s the truth (whispered...
