Reader, you can have the best intentions, a strong work ethic, and highly-effective strategies ... but without the energy to get things done, you, well, won't get things done.

Without a fully charged battery, you might have sluggish performance or a lag in response time.

But there are things you can do to boost your energy, protect your performance, and get more done. Here are 5 tips from today's shared video to help you do just that:

Tip 1: Move More

No surprise here. Moving more is commonly suggested as a best practice to increase your energy. However, a couple of things I appreciate about Laurie's message about movement:

  • She acknowledges the power of words, specifically that "exercise" can be a daunting, even intimidating to those of us who don't do it! "Moving" is much easier to wrap my exercise-resistant mind around.
  • Consistency over intensity. Small things add up, and our efforts to move more are no different.
  • Moving outside gives the added benefits of fresh air and sunshine. Again, not a new idea, but what a great reminder!

Tip 2: Right Food at the Right Time

The rule of not eating after 8pm is similar to intermittent fasting. It has many benefits, including getting better sleep which contributes to better energy the next day.

And, of course, not eating sugary snacks helps avoid the subsequent energy-draining sugar crash. Natural fruits and nuts are, indeed, a much healthier snack choice.

Tip 3: Better Sleep = Better Energy

Here are some research-backed best practices for optimal sleep (which, in turn, promotes optimal energy):

  • Sleep in a dark, cool room
  • Limit daytime naps (if you're lucky enough to nap in the first place!)
  • No caffeine after 2pm
  • Keep to a consistent wake time and bed time

Tip 4: Drink More Water

You may have heard this tip from me before, and it is so true! Drinking more water gives us energy ... both physically and mentally. This is because even mild dehydration affects our cognition, fatigue, and stress levels.

Tip 5: Plan Your Day around Your Energy

When you plan your day around your own natural energy peaks and dips, you set yourself up for optimal performance. This means doing your most important work when your energy is at its peak and doing more mundane tasks (like answering email or doing admin work, for example) during your "lull" times.

Everyone is different, so it's important for you to know when your peak hours are. Mine tend to be mid-morning and then again later in the afternoon (after I've had a little post-lunchtime break outdoors).

Protect Your Energy and Get More Done

These tips are just a few ways you can protect your energy, giving you the ability to maintain your productivity and get more done. Find what works for you, and then make it part of your daily habits.

Don’t Wait for a Big Event to Reach Out Hey Reader, Working from home can be empowering … but also a little isolating. And during summer — when people are vacationing, kids are home, and routines shift — it’s easy to fall into solo mode without even realizing it. That’s where this "trick" I discovered with milestones comes in ... Yes, we usually think of milestones as personal progress markers. But here’s a reframe: Milestones can be powerful prompts for connection, too. This week’s blog...

Celebrate More. Hustle Less Hey Reader, Ever seen a toddler take their first step? The room erupts. Clapping, cheering, maybe even tears. One tiny step … and we instinctively know it’s a big deal. But somewhere between baby steps and business plans, we stop celebrating progress like that. We wait for big milestones — the revenue leap, the launch, the polished result — and skip right past the smaller wins that actually get us there. This week, I want to challenge that. Because when you’re...

Redefine What Counts as a Milestone and Reinforce Your Momentum and Motivation Hey friend — This week, we’re flipping the script on what counts as a milestone. Because if you're only tracking the big, obvious moments — the product launches, the revenue wins, the dream clients — you might be missing out on the most motivating kind of progress. And that’s exactly why I want to invite you to redefine your milestones. Here’s the truth: Progress isn’t just about final results. It’s about all the...
