Why Building Rest Into Your Workday Makes You More Productive — Not Less Hey Reader, happy mid-December! You hanging in there? If you’ve ever ended a workday feeling wrung out — like you worked all day but didn’t actually feel productive — you’re not alone. This time of year especially, many work-from-home entrepreneurs try to force summer-level output from winter-level energy. Shorter days. Heavier brains. Bodies that want slower rhythms. And yet … the to-do list stays loud. Here’s the gentle truth I want you to hear today (it's something I'm reminding myself, too): Rest isn’t something you earn after the work is done. Most of us were taught that rest is a reward. Finish the list, then you can stop. Push harder, then you can recover. But when you work from home — with no commute, no physical boundaries, and constant mental load — that model quietly drains you. Winter makes this even more obvious. But nature isn’t pushing right now. It’s conserving. Restoring. Strengthening roots below the surface. Your business needs that same kind of functional rest — not checking out, not quitting early, but building small, intentional pauses into the way you work so your energy doesn’t leak out all day long. This kind of rest can look surprisingly simple:
These micro-rests don’t make you less productive. They protect your clarity, creativity, and decision-making — the very things your business depends on. One mindset shift that changes everything is this: “Rest isn’t what I get when I finish. Rest is what helps me finish.” When you stop fighting your energy and start working with it, your workflow becomes smarter — not softer. If this idea resonates, I go much deeper in this week’s blog article on how to build rest into your workflow so your business actually performs better — especially in winter. You don’t need more discipline. You don't need more hustle. You need a workflow that honors your energy. You’ve got this — and I’m right here with you. 💛 Your Action Step this WeekChoose ONE type of rest you’re craving most right now (physical, sensory, cognitive, emotional, creative, or social). Then intentionally build a small version of that rest into your workday for the next three days. Read the article for some ideas and inspiration about how to do this! Nothing dramatic. Nothing that makes you change your whole routine to accommodate it. Just practical, doable rest — and then notice how your focus and capacity shift. ✨Want to go deeper? 💎 Upgrade to Insider/VIP access for instant access to the full Power Tool library.

A gentler, doable way to feel more in control before January arrives Reader, we’ve officially entered that funny stretch of December where time feels both slow and fast … like we’re wading through molasses, but the calendar is sprinting toward the new year. And if you’re anything like me (and every Gen X woman entrepreneur I know), this is when the whispers start: “You should fix everything now.” “You need a new system.” “You’re already behind on next year.” But here’s the truth (whispered...
A Gentler, More Grounded Way to Lighten Your Workload — From the Inside Out Reader, tell me if this sounds familiar … You sit down at your desk — coffee warm, planner open, to-do list fairly reasonable — and yet you feel tired before you even start. Not physically tired. More like a quiet mental heaviness you can’t quite name. That’s emotional clutter. And this is the season it loves to pile up. Year-end brings a strange cocktail of momentum, pressure, hope, and holiday chaos. As Gen X women,...
A Gentle Reset for Your Year-End Rhythm Hey Reader, If this week feels like you’re juggling holiday prep with business loose ends, you’re not alone. We’re in that beautifully messy stretch of the year when your brain is switching between “Where did I put the pie server?” and “Should I send one more client follow-up?” Here’s the reminder I want you to breathe in: You don’t have to finish the year in a frenzy. You’re allowed to slow down — not as a weakness, but as a deeply strategic choice....
