Busy Employees React. CEOs Think. Hey Reader, Most of us don't begin the day planning to spend hours reacting to interruptions. But somehow it happens. An email arrives. A client has a question. A notification pops up. One quick task leads to another, and before long, we've been busy all morning — but the work we actually wanted to accomplish is still waiting. That realization hit me recently while I was out in the garden. I headed outside intending to tend the tomatoes, only to get distracted by a few weeds. Thirty minutes later, I had a bucket full of weeds ... and tomatoes that still needed my attention. Sound familiar? One of the biggest challenges of running a business isn't simply managing your time. It's deciding what deserves your attention before the world decides for you. That's a very different way of thinking about productivity. Instead of asking, "What do I need to get done today?" we can begin asking, "What deserves my attention today?" That one question shifts us from reacting to leading. If you'd like to explore this idea further, this week's article, Busy Employees React. CEOs Think., dives deeper into why protecting your attention may be one of the most valuable leadership habits you'll ever develop — and how a simple weekly CEO Meeting can help you make more intentional decisions. The truth is, some interruptions really are important. Just like weeds in a garden, they can't always be ignored. The goal isn't to pretend they don't exist. The goal is to choose them consciously instead of allowing every unexpected interruption to decide your day's agenda for you. That's what leadership looks like. It's not about squeezing more into your schedule. It's about making thoughtful decisions before the day carries you somewhere you never intended to go. Your Action Step this WeekDuring your next CEO Meeting, draw a line down the middle of a page. On one side, list everything competing for your attention. On the other, write the three things that would make the biggest difference if they received your focused attention this week. Then ask yourself one simple question: What would the CEO of YOU, Inc. choose? You may discover that the loudest priorities aren't actually the most important ones. 💛 Insider & VIP CornerThis month's CEO Meeting Agenda Mini Power Tool is available exclusively for Tenacious WFH Entrepreneur Insiders and VIPs. The One Appointment That Changes Everything Hey Reader, Have you ever noticed how easy it is to protect everyone else's time ... while treating your own as completely optional? Most of us wouldn't think twice about showing up for a client meeting. We'd be there a few minutes early, notebook in hand, ready to listen, ask good questions, and help move things forward. But when the appointment is with ourselves? That's often the first thing to disappear when life gets busy. I've been thinking...
Connected Doesn't Mean Constantly Available The lesson I brought home from a week when my laptop never left my tote bag. Hey Reader, When we left for our week in Cayucos, I packed my laptop. Not because I planned to work. But because ... well ... just in case. Just in case inspiration struck. Just in case something urgent came up. Just in case there was an emergency that couldn't wait until I got home. That laptop rode all the way to the beach in my tote bag. And then it stayed there. For the...
The Invisible Report Card Hey Reader, Last week, I found myself looking at my to-do list at the end of the day and mentally calculating how I'd done ... Did I finish everything? Did I make enough progress? Did I accomplish what I planned to accomplish? Before I even realized it, I had started assigning the day a grade. Maybe not literally. But definitely in spirit. And that's when I caught myself. Why am I still grading my days? Because the funny thing is, I haven't been in school for a very...
