Before You Plan Next Year … Do This First

How Looking Back Moves You Forward

Let’s be honest Reader — most of us are already mentally packing up this year. We’re thinking about new goals, fresh planners, and the big push to end strong.

But before you charge into what’s next, I want you to pause.

Take a deep breath.

And look back.

I know — that can feel counterproductive in a world that worships momentum. But here’s the quiet truth most entrepreneurs miss:

Reflection is fuel. It’s how you refill your confidence tank before the next climb.

You’ve handled tough clients. You’ve learned new tools. You’ve weathered uncertainty (again). You’ve done more than you remember — because you’ve been too busy doing to notice.

When you intentionally look back — at your progress, your pivots, and your quiet wins — you remind your brain:

“I’ve done hard things before. I can do them again.”

That’s not just feel-good talk. It’s neuroscience. Your brain builds future confidence on past proof.

So as you head into the final stretch of the year, resist the urge to sprint. Instead, take thirty minutes to pause, reflect, and reconnect with your own evidence of growth.

Because confidence doesn’t come from doing more.

It comes from noticing what you’ve already done.

This week’s blog article — The Confidence-Boosting Power of Looking Back — digs into how reflection rewires your brain for courage and combats imposter syndrome.

Your Action Step this Week

Grab your favorite notebook (or open a fresh doc) and answer these two reflection prompts:

  1. What went well this year — even if no one else noticed?
  2. What did I handle better this time than I might have last year?

Then, share one insight with a trusted peer or accountability partner. Saying it out loud solidifies it — and gives that self-doubt voice a firm “thanks, but no thanks.”

The Mindset Shift that Multiplies Your Momentum Reader, gratitude isn’t just a “feel-good” habit — it’s a focus habit. When you intentionally notice what’s working in your business, you’re actually retraining your brain to spot progress, possibilities, and potential. Science backs it up. Gratitude lights up the parts of your brain that release dopamine and serotonin — the same “feel good” chemicals that boost creativity and focus. Translation? When you practice gratitude, you’re not just...

How to Stay Confident When Q4 Tries to Knock You Off Balance Hey Reader, Have you ever noticed how confidence seems to fade right when the year speeds up? One week you’re cruising through projects, and the next, you’re questioning everything — your progress, your plans, even your sanity. That’s not failure. That’s normal. It's like the rise and fall of sourdough starter or the ebb and flow of the tides. And while it can happen at any time of the year, it seems to happen to most of us at some...

Tracking Your Wins Is the Shortcut to Feeling More Confident Let’s be honest — confidence can sometimes feel like a moving target. One day you’re owning your brilliance, the next you’re questioning if you’re doing enough. Here’s the truth, Reader: Confidence doesn’t appear out of thin air. It grows when you notice and name your progress — the small, steady wins that prove you’re moving forward, even when you can’t see the full picture yet. If you’ve ever tracked steps on a fitness app or...
